Background Re-cap (How We Got to Here)
The Ingham GSC Strategic Planning Process,
to date has included:
Collecting and reviewing the data
indicators;
Prioritizing the data elements to graph
and highlight in a report;
Writing the Ingham Community Status
Report;
Developing one goal statement for each of
the 5 component areas;
Organizing over 25 community
conversations;
Presenting the Status Report and receiving
community feedback and input on suggested strategies;
Transcribing the suggestions from the
Community Conversations, and
Distilling this input into themes and strategies for each
Goal area in preparation for the GSC Retreat.
The plan for the Retreat is to review Strategies and Objectives for each of the Goals based on the community feedback themes and the expertise of the GSC members, and focus on identifying Resources Needed, Roles & Responsibilities, Target Dates and first next steps. At the Retreat we may identify Progress Measures, but MSU has also agreed to help us develop and write up these parts after the Retreat. Taken together this will be used to as our 3 year Strategic Plan or the Early Childhood Action Agenda for our community.

VII. Goals & Strategies
· This
section details the long term goals and specific strategies that the GSC is
proposing to close the gap between the Great Start results and “current reality”
in the community.
· Goals
are defined as general statements about what needs to be accomplished to address
the major issues facing the community.
· Strategies
(approaches) are the broad, overarching efforts that will be undertaken to
achieve the goals.
· The
timeframe for these goals and strategies is 3 years; the ECIC will be
supporting Great Start Collaboratives to refine, review and update their
Strategic Plans on a three year cycle.
· Goals
and strategies are expected for each component area as well as for the local
early childhood system infrastructure.
VIII. Action Agenda
· This
section will detail, for each strategy:
Objectives, Resource Needs, Roles/Responsibilities, Target Dates,
Progress Measures and Status.
· An
Objective is defined as a measurable step that will be taken to advance a
Strategy within a specific timeframe.
· The
timeframe for Objectives is 3 years; the ECIC will be supporting Great Start
Collaboratives to refine, review and update their Strategic Plans on a three
year cycle.
