Steps to Become a Mentor
Make A difference! Become a mentor!
It's easy! Just follow these steps: 1. Look over the Mentor Job Description, and Program's mission. 2. Email mentorme4h@yahoo.com or call 517-676-7302 expressing your interest in becoming a mentor. 3. A meeting between you and the program coordinator will be set up where you will be interviewed and fill out the following volunteer selection paperwork: 4-H New Leaders from, 4-H Project Leader form, MSU Extension Criminal History Check form, Volunteer's Code of Conduct, and the Department of Human Services Central Registry Clearance. 4. You will be given three Reference forms to be given to three references and mailed back to the program coordinator. | |
5. You will participate in mentor training. Mentor training consist of two three hour sessions. At the first session we will discuss policies, procedures, and mentoring. At the second session we will discuss boundaries, youth development and communication.
6. In the next two or three weeks after you have completed training, a match will be made with an appropriate mentee based on personality and interest between. You will have the opprotunity to approve the match.
7. Meet with your mentee, the mentee's parents/guardians, court officers, and program coordinator. Then you're ready to begin your mentoring relationship!
