Brief Overview

SRTS in Ingham County started in 2008 and will continue in 2009. Brief steps involved included in this summary.

In 2008 Ingham County Health Department worked with Willow and Reo Elementary Schools to follow the pre-application process of the Safe Routes to School program. This included forming a SRTS Team, assessing parents and students behavior and attitudes related to walking or biking to school, doing a walking audit in the school boundary area, holding a public walk to school day event with support from the city of Lansing Mayor's office, and finally completing an electronic pre-application form toward SRTS infrastructure and education and encouragement funding from MDOT.
In 2009, ICHD will be working with three schools in East Lansing to go through the same process. Pinecrest, Glencairn and Marble elementary schools were selected for 2009.
