Participate in Drill:

Volunteers sought to play victims in mock bio attack

Michigan has developed a draft plan to receive, distribute and dispense pharmaceuticals and medical equipment from the "Strategic National Stockpile" (SNS) that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will send in response to a biological or chemical terrorist attack. CDC requires that this plan be tested or exercised. That will occur on June 3, 2003.

The scenario is that there will be a simulation of a terrorist event using a biological agent at a sporting event. These people as well as the general public will need to obtain medication distributed through the SNS system. Michigan Department of Community Health will initially receive the materials on June 2. The exercise will be carried out in the tri-county area (Clinton, Ingham and Eaton Counties). The three local health departments will be setting up mock distribution sites, including one at Breslin Center, MSU on Tuesday June 3.

We are currently registering people to act as "victims" to walk through this medication clinic at Breslin Center on June 3. They will be given a "script" card with mock health and special needs information that they must relay to the workers at the site (for example, I am pregnant or I have high blood pressure or I only speak Polish) The time commitment will be from approximately 9am - 2 pm on that day and the actors will be briefed on their duties upon arrival. We expect that it will be an interesting educational experience and lunch will be provided. Accommodations for the handicapped will be provided.

If you are interested in participating please fill out the required registration form.  Download the form by clicking on the icon where it says "SNS Exercise". Return it to Pete Coscarelli (his address is on the form).
