Help for posting news

Why make a news item?
News items are commonly used in Web sites to display news that’s of interest to the reader. Actually, a news item contains the same information as a document. The only real difference is that a news item will show up when a visitor clicks the news tab (once the item is published).

If I wanted to write a Web page that was going to be relevant for a long period of time, such as directions to my organization’s office, I’d use a document. If I wanted a page that detailed my exciting new product and drew attention to it, I’d use a news item. That news item would be visible under the news tab, and as new things happened, it’d slowly move down the page.

To add a news item:

  • Find your organization's folder. Most new groups will be in the Organizations area of the site, so click on that menu option in the left-hand column after logging in.

    • You'll notice two tabs over the main text area.  Click on Contents to see all the folders in this section.  Find your organization's folder in the list and click on it to open it.

    • Now, it's time to add a news item.  You'll notice three menu options to the right of the contents and view tabs: actions, display, add item, and state.  Click on add item, and you'll be presented with a list of the different types of content you can create.

  • Select the state as publish.
  • This news item will be displayed on the News folder located on the right side navigation.  This will be made public to all visitors to the site.
